Walt Disney World 2016 - Part 9 - Day 8

walt disney world trip report

After the late night we had at Mickeys Not so Scary Halloween Party we took it easy the following morning! We hadn’t really hit Disney Springs in the daytime all that much so we headed down to the boat launch and took a trip down the Sassogula River to the shopping district of Disney.

I don’t know if I’ve already mentioned the boat. But if I have, I’m going to do so again! Seriously, one of our favourite things about staying at Port Orleans Riverside is the boat ride to Disney Springs (Once upon a time, Downtown Disney). It’s so chilled out and relaxing, perfect after a crazy day in the parks. It kind of forces you to take things slow, to take a load off, to just enjoy the greenery and the really bad jokes of the Captains. I love sailing through the tree top villas and imagining what it would be like to stay there. When I talk about Disney trips to people they’re under the impression it’s all go, go, go! from start to finish. It can be, if you want it to be. But it’s so easy to take your time, actually relax and still get to see and do everything on offer.

So yeah. I love me some boat.

The Mr and I took off in search of some breakfast! We didn’t have a reservation anywhere but it was so quite, I didn’t think we’d have a problem grabbing a table. We found ourselves at Raglan Road, the Irish-inspired bar and restaurant. I’ve had the evening menu here and it’s really good, with some really lively entertainment and Irish dancing. The breakfast/brunch atmosphere is much more subdued but the food is fantastic. We ordered a couple of ‘it’s 5 o’clock somewhere’ cocktails, because if you can’t have cocktails with breakfast on holiday, when can you?

Gin-cocktail in hand, I ordered the pork belly with breakfast potatoes and fried eggs which was delicious! The pork belly fell apart and everything just went together so well! We had such a chilled morning, watching the most bizarre and overdressed photo shoot take place right across from us. You see some strange things in Disney that’s for sure!

We mooched around the shops for a while, eventually meeting back up with the family before heading back to the resort. We dropped our bags, because it would be rude to go to Disney Springs and buy nothing, then headed back out. We hadn’t spent much time in Hollywood Studios so we headed on over to rectify this!

Highlights;

  • The Mr going on Tower of Terror! My favourite ride, now his most hated! He wanted to do it just once, because he knew how much I loved it but once turned out to be more than enough for him!
  • Rock n Rollercoaster - I haven’t been on this for years, it used to make me feel really ill but again, because the Mr was going on, I did too. It’s actually much smoother than I remember and was a good laugh!
  • Toy Story Mania - because it really is the best ride in Hollywood Studios.
  • Fantasmic - we sat waaaaaaaay up in the back, I mean as far back as you can go and these turned out to be the best seats we’ve ever had - and they were right next to the bar, so you know, that helps too!
  • Star Wars fireworks - as we came out of Fantasmic we caught the back end of the Star Wars fireworks over the Chinese Theatre. I loved the battle scenes they did with the lasers and the trees, I came close to ducking at one point it felt so real!
