2017 Goals and Resolutions

2017 resolutions

I wasn’t sure if I was going to write this post this year. You know how it is, the clock strikes midnight and you're all celebrating and auld lang syne-ing, you stumble home with an entire year ahead of you. A year of possibilities, adventures, goals, change. But then you stop, and you think no, I want to be different. I tried the whole not really putting down resolutions and goals last year and it definitely took the pressure off but, sometimes, there’s things you really do need to work on and blogging them is like a blood pact for the digital age.

Look after number one…

Towards the end of 2016, I was not looking after myself as well as I could have been. I can’t remember the last time I set foot in the gym, I’ve been crap shovelling left, right and centre and neglecting doing all the little things that I enjoy. I feel like I went into some sort of hibernation. Warm nights in on the couch watching too much Netflix, working my way through half a selection box and in elasticated waist pjs…not the best idea. I need to start prioritising me. Putting myself, and my health first, because I know I’m not. I’ve been working my way through my happiness journal and the one thing it has made me realise is how little I am doing that I actually enjoy. You can’t put a price on that folks. So yeah, I’m going to look after me this year. I suggest you look after you too.

Put my money where my memories are…

I look at my credit card statements and I see things. Things I’ve bought, just random things, things I didn’t even need. They fill my statements. Then I look at the cash withdrawals and yup, I see all the money going out but I see nothing coming in. I look around and I have nothing to show for it. Maybe it’s an age thing but this is really starting to frustrate me now. I don’t just want something to show for my cash, I need something to show for it. I want to actually do something with my money, I want to go on adventures, I want to go out for meals to new restaurants, I want to see live music, I want to go on weekend getaways and random outings. I want to do the things not collect the things. Get me?

Up my blog game

Honestly, I think I say this every year. My blog is growing. Slow and steady, but the growth is there in the numbers. I’m not talking Zoella over night, genuinely, nobody I know wants that, except maybe to be in a position to charge her rates but not the crazy tweens stalking you. I want to blog more. I have the ideas, it’s just forcing myself to sit down and actually create the content. Somedays that’s all I want to do, other days, I’d rather watch half a season of The Gilmore Girls in my pj's and nothing else. And that’s ok. That’s an OK thing to do, but you know, multi-tasking might need to become a thing. I can feel my schedule changing maybe. And I’m not talking daily blogging right now, or maybe ever but just…more. Watch this space.

And with blogging comes improvement…

Of the photography kind. I really want to play around with photography more. I want to find a set up that works for me, maybe even a theme that makes things distinctively mine. Mr’s mum got me an amazing photography book for Christmas and it’s full of useful tips, tricks homework and inspiration so I’m going to work through that and maybe, just maybe, you’ll notice a difference!

So yeah. I don’t know if you’d call them goals or resolutions or attainable but that’s them. More time for me, more time for memories, more time for blogging. I don’t think I’m asking for much…but I do wish I could remember where my Bernards watch is…

What are your goals, resolutions or want-to-dos for 2017?

Until next year,

  1. Totally with you on all of these - especially number one, I felt like before Christmas I was in a little hibernation box where all I wanted to do was sit on the couch!

    1. I'm coming to realise that hibernation is proving difficult to come out of!

      Sarah :)

  2. "do the things, not collect the things" might be the best thing I've heard this year so far!! I hope you achieve everything you want this year, and I can't wait to see what you do with your photography. Oh and if you find the watch can I borrow it? I need a long lie haha xx

    1. Haha if I find that watch I'll be sure to pass it around, using it for a lie in would be number one on my list!

      Sarah :)
