Saloca in Wonderland 2016
I love looking back on the previous year as I step into a new one. It’s always good to stop for a minute and take a check of how far you’ve come. The years are flying by now and it’s so easy to think that time is just getting away from you and not much of anything has the chance of happening. *insert wrong buzzer here*. Things do happen, more things than you probably realise to begin with! So, I’m going to take a little trip down blogging memory lane and go over the best bits of 2016 here in Wonderland!
I guess this yearly review starts with my biggest fail of the year; Project 365. I had all the best intentions of doing this daily photo challenge and don’t actually think I lasted the first month! Aargh! I think I might attempt it for 2017, so watch this space! To those who nailed it, kudos!
One thing I have enjoyed this year is writing up some posts around blogging itself! How much it actually costs to be a blogger surprised quite a few people, it’s not all freebies and VIP events you know! And if there’s anything I’ve learnt this year, it’s that Bloggers make the best friends.
I made my first After Eight mug cake and am so glad I got a huge box of them again this Christmas because I can’t think of any other way to eat them now unless it’s in mug-cake form! It baffles me that you can now buy mug cake-cake mixes! I mean really, really??
Another year, another Comic Con in Liverpool! - Only this time I had a press pass! OK, so it didn’t actually get me anything but it was a super cool momento and gave me an access all areas pass to buying as much Pocky as I could carry!
I’ve tried to make more of an effort to make time for friends and family this year, and it’s not always easy but it’s worth it! I took my family out for a fantastic meal at the Derby Lodge and we spent some really quality catch-up time together over awesome food!
There have been some amazing Bloggers events this year, from NWMeet 2.0, #LPPEvent, Liv Helps, the first, and most sought after Girl Gang event, and of course, the creme de la creme of the blogging calendar; the Bloggers Blog Awards, which I actually was a judge for this year!
I camped out for the first time since I was about 13 and actually loved it! I headed down south for the Cinema Sleepover Club and it was an amazing weekend - Dirty Dancing under the stars! Epic!
I watched one of my best friends walk down the aisle to marry their best friend which was just beautiful and amazing - and to see them welcoming their own little bundle of joy next year just fills me with all the warm feels!
I went on my first ever trip to Scotland with the Mr’s family - it was amazing! We stayed in the secluded Oransay Cottage in Loch Linnhe for his 30th Birthday celebrations and had an amazing time!
I turned 29 which was both weird and wonderful. Weird because I don’t really like the sound of 29, but wonderful as I got to spend it in my most favourite place on Earth - Walt Disney World!
And then there was Disney! Taking the Mr to my happy place for the first time along with my family was quite literally a dream come true. I have always imagined big family vacations out there and it actually happened! We had the most magical time and I’ve been on a Disney downer ever since coming home - I have zero idea when I’ll next be lucky enough to go back but this trip gave me more than enough memories to last a lifetime!
Sure, 2016 was a bit of a git, it took away many of our childhood icons, the country turned itself upside down and the world seems to be on a way one path to self destruction, but amidst the chaos and uncertainty, in my own little bubble things have been pretty grand and I count myself beyond lucky and thankful for that.
Honestly, I have no idea what 2017 will bring. I’ll be turning 30 this year and it feels very very strange. Everything kind of feels very centred around that right now and wanting to make my 30th year one that is very special and very memorable - I’ve got a few ideas so watch this space!
How did your 2016 look?
Until next time,
