I feel like I’ve been watching a lot of tv shows lately! The lighter nights are starting to come in but it’s still a bit too cold for the beer gardens right now, so I’ve been making the most of the last few weeks of hibernation and having one to many Netflix and chill hours on the couch. Here’s a quick round-up of what’s been keeping me entertained lately and here's what I've previously been watching.
Jane the Virgin (Netflix)
I only started this one two days ago and I’ve almost finished season one. It kept popping up as ‘recommended for you’ on Netflix, then it kept popping up on my Twitter feed, everyone raving about it. So I decided to see what it was all about. I haven’t stopped laughing since it stated. You’ve got your 24 year old virgin who ends up accidentally artificially insemenated with her bosses sperm. Though it takes some inspiration (and piss taking) from foreign tv novellas, the cast is brilliant, funny and with some deeper, more heart breaking stories running behind the laughs. I didn’t actually expect to take this one seriously but I feel so involved in the show now!
Bosch (Amazon Prime)
I don’t watch a lot of detective style shows but the Mr had heard good things so I gave the first episode a try and was instantly hooked. Bosch, a hard hitting LA homicide detective ends up leading a 20 year old bones case that opens him up to a seriously unhinged, murderous, psychopath who may or may not be connected to his past. We’ve just finished season one and I can’t wait to get started on season 2!
I was so happy when the second half of the latest season of my favourite fairy tale drama started to appear on Netflix the other week, I feel like it’s been off for ages! I’ve been watching this one since the start and the show has just gone from strength to strength. This season we’re in the Underworld, Hercules, Hades, Meg, they’ve all made an appearance so far, now I’m just waiting for Phil!
Season 2 appeared early March and what a kick ass season it was. Season 2 has taken a much darker, almost Jessica Jones inspired darkness turn, with The Punisher appearing as a season regular. So much blood, guts and violence, with some pretty interesting twists towards the end. I heard they where only doing 2 seasons of Daredevil but after how season 2 ended, I’m so glad they’ve signed on for another season.
House of Cards (Netflix)
Season 3. From whip, to presidential candidate to being the actual president, Frank Underwood continues to surprise me with his dark, will eat your unborn child to get what he wants, attitude. The third season seemed to fly by in a whirlwind of drama, intrigue, family history and a brutal season finale. Franks presidency is under threat, and he and Claire don’t do being threatened, they much prefer being the ones threatening others.
I’ve tried so to get into this one but I just can’t. I loved Gillian Jacobs in Community (Britta) but in this, not so much. I usually like really dead pan, dry, dark humour but this just wasn’t doing it for me. I stuck with it for about 4 episodes but I can’t see myself going back anytime soon.
The Flash (Sky)
I have a thing for Marvel/DC programmes and films and The Flash has been one of my favourites since the beginning. The humour, the seriousness, Barry, Cisco’s t-shirts and bad jokes, it’s all right up my street (except the part where he centrifuges things in his hand - just no!). The latest season has been brilliant, dramatic and I’m loving the whole Earth 1/Earth 2 thing they’ve got going on and who the heck is Jay?!
What have you been hooked on recently? Anything I need to check out?
Until next time,
