No-Buy January - The Result

no buying beauty products for one month challenge

Back at the beginning of the month I tightened the purse strings and made a promise to myself that I would not buy any beauty/skin care/random crap for one entire month. Well, with a day to go, I figure it’s pretty safe to give the result.

Success or fail?

…..
…….
………

Success!

I actually found it ridiculously easy, which in a way, is a let down. I’ve got an Ikea Alex unit filled to the brim with unused products that I’m working my way through and the only thing I actually ran out of this month and had to go buy was toothpaste. Boring much?

I did make a point of avoiding the likes of Boots, Lush and beauty counters in department stores. Keeping the temptation as far out of reach as possible really did help. When I had to go into Lush for a birthday present for a friend, I picked it out online first so I knew exactly what I was going in for and couldn’t spend any time looking around, picking things up and being tempted by all of the things

Having more products in my drawers than I know what to do with means it will be longer than a month to actually make a dent in them and have an excuse to buy new lotions and potions. Not that that always stops me, but, I would like to work my way a little further through my stash before it builds up again.

So, there we have it, month one, challenge one; complete!

I’m still trying to pick my February challenge so if you have any ideas leave them in the comments below!

Did you set yourself a challenge this month? How did it go?

Until next time,

    1. Thanks! I'm sure that's one of the curses of blogging, we just accumulate SO many things!

    1. On the last day of the challenge I discovered the majority of my shower gels had actually gone out of date - having recently had an allergic reaction to one I figured it wasn't safe to continue so out they went and I actually got to buy something much needed a little more exciting than toothpaste! Hurrah!

    1. I'm going to keep going and try and make this an actual thing, only buying things as and when I need them. I figure that way not only will I be able to splurge a little more, I'll appreciate the products and be able to give even better write ups on them!

  5. I have SO may body scrubs, shower gels, body butters etc. just laying around because people buy me them and I never use them. I've been starting to make my way through them instead of buying new things and it's actually been really good to start making a dent in them. I don't know if you've found that to be the case too! I'm SO lucky that there isn't a Lush where I live, I just cannot resist that smell haha. I'm sure it's magical and draws you in! Well done on a successful month, looking forward to your next challenge :)

    1. In many ways Lush is evil like that, it's so hard NOT to buy something for yourself! The way I'm starting to see it, if I can use up what I have then I'm saving ££ which means I can splurge on the next purchase a little more, making it all the more special, and of course, I'll be more likely to use that special little something up before I buy something new!

    1. I'd like today it saved me money but honestly, we went out that much through January I don't think it actually helped my savings all that much lol! Oh well! Good luck, I'm going to try and turn a new leaf and keep it up too!
