The Body Shop Almond Hand Care Range
Just over a week ago, my local Body Shop invited me down to check out all their new delights on offer for Christmas 2014. To make the night something special, the offered complimentary skin consultations, make-overs and hand massages. Well, I signed up right away for a hand massage, my hands are not looking their best right now, cold mornings and a lack of gloves are starting to take their toll on my little delicate hands - The Body Shop gave them some much needed TLC that's for sure!
The store assistant gave me a run down of two of their hand care ranges; hemp and almond. I'm familiar with their hemp range, I've used the hemp hand cream for years now, so I opted for the almond range to see if that one was just as good, or possibly even better!
We started by washing my hands in Almond Conditioning Hand Wash in some warm water. This soap-free cleanser is made from almond oil and their trade mark fair trade Brazil nut oil. Suitable for all skin types, it's aimed at hands that are in need of a moisture boost and some love. During the day job, I'm washing my hands constantly with some pretty harsh stuff so they've become pretty dry and started to develop little rough patches along the knuckles. The assistant assured me that after just one was with the conditioning treatment I would notice a difference. The hand wash is used like any other and foams up really well, it feels like silk through your finger tips and smells amazing, I love an almond scent so this was right up my street! I massaged it into my palms, across my knuckles and spent a little longer on each finger before rinsing in luke warm water and patting dry. My hands already started to feel softer and the skin less tight.
Next up, she went and applied a generous blob of the Almond Hand & Nail cream onto each hand which she then massaged soothingly into each hand, focusing on my more problem areas, like my knuckles. This hand cream is divine! It's a little on the greasy side, but I can forgive it that, using a little less it would have dried in much quicker. My hands literally sighed with relief and the hand cream replenished lost moisture and gave them a moments rest.
To top off the treatment, she picked up the Almond Nail & Cuticle oil, something I've never tried before. I'll be honest, I don't think I've ever really, properly, looked after my cuticles - turns out that's a big mistake! This could explain why my nails have bouts of brittleness and my nail polish starts to chip and peel at the base easily, no matter how many coats I apply! Looking after your cuticles turns out to be pretty easy; the little brush applicator on the pen applies a thin layer of the oil, which is more gel like in substance that gives extra nourishment to the skin around the nails, softening broken skin and cuticles. Then, the little rubber stopper on the top gentle pushes your cuticle back. I honestly thought this would be really uncomfortable but I didn't feel a thing, and my nails looked so much better just for this super quick treatment - I didn't even have a coat of clear polish on them and they looked like they'd been treated by professionals! Hurrah!
After the hand massage my hands felt, and looked, amazing. They felt so soft and nourished, I couldn't stop touching them - and my nails? Damn, I haven't seen them look that good in a long time without a few coats of polish!
With the harsh weather rolling in it's about time I took my hand care routine a little more seriously, so I scooped up all three products for a bargain £16 (pretty sure it's only available in the bundle in store). The assistant recommended I do the complete treatment just once a week, twice if my hands are feeling really dry, and insisted I would notice a difference! My Sunday night pamper just got a few minutes longer but so far, it's been worth it and my hands are looking and feeling great!
