A to Z Challenge: N

A to Z Challenge

N

N is for...Name!

What's in a name? What's in my name? Let's have a look...

Sarah

Means "lady" or "princess" in Hebrew. This is the name of the wife of Abraham in the Old Testament. She became the mother of Isaac at the age of 90. Her name was originally Sarai, but God changed it (see Genesis 17:15). In England, Sarah came into use after the Protestant Reformation.

I found out when I was really young that my name meant 'Princess' - what little girl wouldn't love that? It made my day when I was tiny. 'Lady' is probably more apt now that I'm older. Can't say I fancy following in Sarahs of the Old Testaments footsteps however and giving birth at 90, I can't see that being any fun at all!
My name is ranked #95 in England, #43 in USA, #10 in Ireland and #4 in Austria!

What does your name mean? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,

  2. Haha Stephanie means 'Queen' and quite appropriately for my family is French. I ised to love dreaming of one day marrying a prince and becoming a fancy queen. I may not be fancy, but I think I definitely found my prince :)

  3. Sorry I lie! Stephanie means 'crown'! I'll admit I am definitely a pampered princess, but I really did used to imagine marrying a prince when I was younger - I actually remember doing research!
