A to Z Challenge: J

A to Z Challenge

J is for... journalling!

Dear Diary....ok, so I don't think I've ever actually started off a journal entry with those words! I've been keeping journals for close to 10 years now, paper based ones that is. I've done the whole on-line diary thing, Live Journal anyone? Does anyone actually still use that site? Ah, I loved it back in the day! I'd always been too paranoid to keep an off-line diary, I've never liked the thought of someone else reading my ramblings...well except for the ones your reading here! Live Journal gave me anonymity, heck I could set the posts to private if I really didn't want them out there in the world. It also gave me a sense of community. I connected with a lot of people through that site and was fascinated reading about their daily lives - guess I'm just a touch nosey haha!

I eventually stopped using Live journal for a few personal reasons and my journalling days were up for a while. I honestly can't remember why I gave off-line journalling a go again, it just happened one day. Then the next, and the next, and even the one after that. I just kept going. And I'm still going today. I still don't like the thought of anyone else reading them - I think if you know someone is going to read them then you edit before you put pen to paper, so what's the point if your not accurately recording the goings on in your life?

I don't think people should read other peoples journals either, not private ones. If I'm dead, fine, but whilst I breathe...please don't!

What I love about journalling is it gives me a chance to go through my day, to record the good, bad and ugly moments in my life. It also really helps me deal with issues and drama that's going on. By dumping all of my worries or ill feelings on paper, I'm clearing my mind - it also helps me sleep a lot better. It helps me work through or understand a situation when I read over my entries. I also forget a lot of things. So it's nice to have a record of them!

Have you ever or do you still keep an off-line diary? I wonder if I'll still be keeping them when I'm 100? I hope so!

Until next time,

  1. I've had so many online diaries, from internet forums to livejournals and xanga. I had both private friends only ones, I had ones that were just for me and I had public ones.

I love blogging and journalling and anything like that!

    1. It's so much fun and so therapeutic I find - just getting everything down on paper and out of your head!
