P is for Progress

The Disney Parks blog made an interesting announcement today… ‘Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure’ will be coming to Epcot this summer!

Another interactive, in-park adventure game, very similar (if not exactly the same) to the ‘Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure’, guests will assist Agent P is stopping the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz using ‘high tech’ gadgets to solve puzzles and retrieve clues as they travel around World Showcase on missions. Sound familiar?

I imagine they’re going to upgrade on the tech already used for Kim Possible, possible incorporating much of what they have learnt during the creation of ‘Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom’, fancy interactive screens, RFID technology etc. When this comes about, it could be the soft opening for Agent P and the quiet closure of Kim Possible. Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure has been in operation since January 2009, the first of the in-park adventure experiences. A hit to begin with, and for some time, this past November I saw many guests taking on the missions and darting around World Showcase with their game devices. I was under the impression it was still a crowd pleaser!
Disneys’ Phineas & Ferb tv show, however, is definatly reaching a bigger audience, in-fact, I’m not even sure if they actually make new Kim Possible episodes anymore! Merchandise wise, especially over here in the UK, our Disney Stores carry Phineas & Ferb products but nothing of note on Kim Possible. I can’t remember the last time I saw Kim Possible merchandise in the parks either. You can usually tell a shows popularity by the amount of merchandise available, and if Disney are keen on making more Phineas & Ferb episodes, then Agent Ps World Showcase Adventure is sure to be popular. That, coupled with updated technology is sure to pull people away from the Kim Possible attraction.

It’s all speculation of course (for now) on the demise of Kim Possible, but this definatly sounds like they are gearing up for a replacement, especially as Agent P’s adventures are set to take you in the same pavilions as Kim Possible. The Kim Possible attraction has never really appealed to me so I’ve yet to give it a go, and after the launch of Agent P in the summer, I might have missed my chance!

Disney is all about progress and I think Kim Possible has finally fallen under the progress steamroller!

Until next time,
