Welcome to a new feature here at Saloca in Wonderland! The Magic, the Memories and Me will be a regular Monday column where I will share with you all some of my most magical memories from Walt Disney World. So follow me into the looking glass and away we go!
I’m extremely lucky to have my birthday in October, one of the nicest times of year to go to WDW, so I’ve already spent a few birthdays in the parks celebrating in Disney style! So of course, when I turned 18, there was no better place to be!
Staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, we couldn’t have balloons in the room (they’re dangerous to the animals if they end up in the savannah) so whilst I was sleeping, Mum covered the walls of our room in pink ‘Happy Birthday’ banners, then after I woke, covered me in an array of birthday badges and ribbons – nobody need ask what I was celebrating! As a treat, we went to the 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian Resort for a character breakfast with Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, Piglet, Alice and the Mad Hatter, I’m pretty sure Mary Poppins made an appearance too!
It was so lovely having the cast members and other guests wish me a happy birthday, our server even brought me out a ‘special’ placemat and a ‘Happy Birthday’ tiara to wear! About half way through breakfast, she then appeared with an adorable Mickey muffin, piled high with frosting and sprinkles and a candle in the top! The entire restaurant downed spoons and joined in a bellowing chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’, applauding and cheering at the end. I’ll admit, I felt the tiniest bit embarrassed to have them all staring at me, a plate full of omelette and breakfast potatoes in front of me, but I loved every minute of it!
The characters had made their rounds, pictures snapped and paws high fived, many of them complimenting my badges and giving me an extra hug, we where about ready to go when one mischievous character came skipping back over to our table. Now, for those of you who have eaten at the 1900 Park Fare, you’ll know it’s not the most spacious of places as you first walk in, there’s not a lot of walk way space between tables, much like The Plaza at Magic Kingdom. So when a florescent orange Tigger bounds up to you with his hand outstretched, you can only say yes! Thinking he was pulling me up for another hug, imagine my surprise when suddenly he is tangoing me the length and breadth of the restaurant!! Everybody looked on with a smile and a giggle! I couldn’t stop laughing, bumping into the backs of chairs and dodging small children, we tangoed on to our own tune, back straight, arms out, he lead me around the room a few times, before taking me back to my seat, planting a kiss on my hand and bouncing off elsewhere.
So, thank you Tigger for making my 18th birthday a breakfast to remember! I’ve never seen it done to anyone else since!
Do you have a magical memory Monday to share?
Until next time,
